 HEMI Health & Wellness Fair

 Run for the Roses Fundraiser

In April, HEMI held a Health & Wellness Fair for all Hamilton County foster youth to learn about the importance of living healthy lifestyles. The event was held at the University of Cincinnati's award winning recreation center and graduate students from Pharmacy, Medicine, Rehabilitation Science, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, and Social Work programs all hosted interactive booths for participants to engage in hands-on learning.

In May, HEMI hosted its sixth annual Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby fundraiser! Our generous supporters came out to the beautiful Peterloon Estate in elegant attire to spend a lovely afternoon playing games, bidding on prizes, socializing, and, of course, to watch the race. All proceeds from the event went to the HEMI Scholarship fund to directly support our youth in the pursuit of their dreams.

In June, HEMI held its third annual Education & Career Pathways Summit at Great Oak's campus. This event, open to all foster youth in Hamilton County, provided attendees with a unique opportunity to explore future education and career opportunities. Groups received a tour of the vocational training facilities and had the opportunity to speak with representatives from the CHECK Foster Care Clinic, Cincinnati State Technical & Community College, CityLink, Great Oaks Career Campuses, HEMI, Mount St. Joseph University, OhioMeansJobs, Ohio Reach, Public Allies Cincinnati, The University of Cincinnati, and Hamilton County Youth Advisory Board.

In November, HEMI held its annual retreat at the Cincinnati Art Museum. After a delicious meal, attendees examined a painting of the Underground Railroad in Cincinnati and then reflected on the qualities that empowered people to fight against injustice, and how those qualities are relevant today. Groups then participated in a friendly, competitive scavenger hunt that allowed everyone to explore the museum.

 Scholars' Celebration Dinner

On December 15, 2016 HEMI held its annual Scholars' Celebration Dinner and gave our $220,000 in scholarships to Hamilton County foster youth! It was a wonderful evening for Mentees, Mentors, Staff, and Friends of HEMI, and a great way to head into 2017.
